Ensure those involved in project marketing are certified, developers urged

2019-07-27

KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 (Bernama) -- Stakeholders including developers should ensure those involved in marketing their projects are certified and possess a Real Estate Negotiators (REN) identification tag, said Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.

She said it has been brought to her attention that real estate practitioners require the REN qualification to be certified and they are issued a tag when attached to a real estate firm.

“I find that many so-called agents out there who are doing projects marketing for developers, for example in shopping complexes and in many other areas where they don’t have tags... this is considered as a breach of the law.

“This is because only those who have tags are legally certified and they have the legal capacity to represent a developer,” said Zuraida in her speech read by the ministry’s deputy director-general Dr Alauddin Sidal at the 11th National Real Estate Awards and Gala Dinner 2019 here today.

She added that it is important for the public to ensure that they only engage those certified agents by asking for the tag to help them sell or acquire properties so that they will not be cheated or conned by those illegal brokers.

At the ceremony, a lifetime achievement award was presented to past president of the Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents N. Thinahara Kumar from Richiprop, while the CEO of the Year award was given to S. Sarkunan from Knight Frank Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
