Electricity bill discount for residential customers to continue

2020-10-09

THE rakyat in Malaysia has been facing the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Government introduced a discount package during the movement control order (MCO) period from April to December. TNB has supported the Government’s initiatives.

The Prihatin discounts were initially given to customers from April to September, while an additional aid known as Bantuan Prihatin Electrik (BPE) was provided to ease the burden of higher billing faced by customers from April to June.

On June 20, the BPE was announced to benefit more than seven million domestic customers in the form of free electricity up to RM231 for three months (April, May and June) during the MCO phase.

With the continuous efforts of the Government to lessen the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the people, more than seven million TNB residential customers (Tariff A-Domestic) will continue to enjoy discounted electricity bills.

Under the Prihatin Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package, residential customers will continue to enjoy a discount based on their total monthly electricity consumption until Dec 31 this year.

Continue to enjoy discounted rates

For residential customers who have minimal electricity consumption of up to 200kWh (total bill between RM0.22 and RM43.60), they can get a maximum discount of 50%.

Residential customers who have electricity consumption of 201-300kWh (total bill between RM43.93 and RM77.00), they will be entitled to a 25% discount.

Those who have electricity consumption of 301-600kWh each month (total bill between RM77.52 and RM231.80) will get a discount of 15%.

For consumption of 601-900kWh of electricity per month (total bill between RM232.35 and RM395.60), they will enjoy a 10% discount.

Residential customers who have electricity consumption of more than 900kWh (total bill RM396.17 and above) will only be eligible for a 2% discount.

TNB offers additional benefits for residential customers

TNB residential customers will continue to enjoy other benefits until the end of this year, such as easy payment plan (option to pay bills in instalment without additional surcharge).

Additionally, there is a waiver of late payment surcharge for the period between March 18 and Dec 31, 2020.

On top of that, there is no disconnection of electricity supply, except upon request from registered users or instruction from relevant authorities.
