MIEA Commercial Agency Of The Year Award 2008 / 2009
GDS Properties

Govindasamy Balaguru

"I was inspired to get into real estate when I sold my first house which I bought for RM80,000 and sold it for RM150,000 within 30 months. This deal was the eye opener for me to get into the world of Real Estate. I asked myself Why not Real Estate as a career"? Says Mr. Govin.

In 1978 he worked as engineering assistant in a government agency and was responsible for Project supervision, maintenance and marketing of engineering products for 5 years. In 1983 he started his career in Real Estate as a negotiator with a borrowed table, chair and a phone line. When securing properties was difficult between 1984 -1986, he created a niche market by creating his own portfolio; he bought homes; renovated it, upgraded & enhanced the properties for sub sale.

In 1992 he had a team of 20 negotiators and focused on recruitment, training and managing the Estate Agency Firm. He has trained more than 250 negotiators. During the slowdown from 1997 to 2000 he took the opportunity to be a solution provider for some developers in carrying out Project marketing.

In his career he has successfully marketed projects worth in excess of RM50 million. In 2000 his firm was involved with Danaharta and sold more than RM100 million worth of assets and was winner for 5 times for 3 consecutive years in various categories. True to his passion in Real Estate he has successfully transacted the following sales;

  • A shopping complex in Section 14, PJ
  • Kuala Lumpur International Hotel (Main block)
  • Midah Hotel, Desaru Resort Hotel, Sahara Budget Hotel
  • Wisma Leopad, PJ8 Office Tower
